Vineyards map
Our vineyards map: at the current moment Cairossa owns 175 acres (70 hectares) of land, half of which occupied by oak, cork oak, and holm oak woods. The first 40 acres (16 hectares) of vineyards were planted between 1998 and 2000 and, following an ample series of soil sampling and analysis, it became evident that the soil composition was quite varied: calcareous at lower altitudes, rich in sandstone and sand, iron-rich at higher altitudes. An additional 37 acres (15 hectares) were planted between 2008 and 2013 on the southern slopes of the Nocolino hill, a site a few kilometers away from the center of Riparbella with clayey soils.
The search for grapes which could express themselves at maximum levels on these soils led to a selection of seven red grape varieties: Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Alicante, and Syrah along with three white grape varieties: Viognier, Chardonnay, and Petit Manseng.
