The 2022 vintage was characterized by a typical climate of the Tuscan Coast. Winter experienced mild temperatures and low rainfall, followed by Spring with abundant precipitation from March to mid-May. Summer arrived early and continued with hot and sunny days. This pattern was interrupted on August 13th by a low-pressure system that brought refreshing rains for over a week. These conditions gave vitality to the vines, allowing the grapes to ripen more evenly. In the Nocolino vineyards, we decided to slightly anticipate the start of the harvest, seeking the best harmony between freshness and ripeness.

The 2021 vintage was marked by varied and challenging weather conditions, with little rainfall throughout the year. The winter was marked by sub-zero temperatures, mostly in February. March was dry with above-average temperatures, which favored the budding of the vines. After a cool, wet spring, a high-pressure system in late May brought more stability to the weather, ensuring dry conditions until the end of August, when a pleasant rain brought freshness to both the air and the soil. September was warm and sunny, allowing the grapes to be harvested at optimum phenolic maturity. The grapes for Aria di Caiarossa are selected from our highest vineyards in Nocolino, with a unique soil composition of stones, marne, and volcanic soil. This terroir ensures greater minerality and a solid structure.

Winter temperatures were mild, with a fresh early spring followed by an April and May with either maximum or minimum above-average temperatures. After copious rainfall in the first week of June, summer continued with no precipitation but cool nights and average maximum temperatures. A clear and bright sky marked the Summer season until the end of August, when a significant rain gave the plants a new vitality and allowed the grapes to ripe correctly. The 2020 vintage grapes show high quality, gentle and well-ripened tannins in all parcels.

We will remember the 2019 vintage as one of the most homogeneous and high-quality vintages in recent years. During the summer months, we had average temperatures with cooler nights. We recorded 6 rainfalls (3 in July and 3 in August) that helped avoid water stress and created the perfect conditions to start the ripening season. The weather conditions during the harvest season were excellent, so we took our time to select and harvest each grape from each parcel in its most harmonious balance between ripeness and crispness. The harvest at Nocolino started picking the Merlot in late August and ended after about a month with harvesting the Cabernet Sauvignon.
